Qigong, pronounced “chi gong,” is a practice that was developed in China thousands of years ago. It has both psychological and physical components and involves the regulation of the mind, breath, movement and posture.

In most forms of qigong, breath patterns are slow, long, and deep. Movements are typically gentle and smooth, and mind regulation involves focusing attention and visualization. Qigong has been shown to have positive effects on health in older adults, including physical function, mood, balance, quality of life, cognition, memory, pain/stiffness, balance training, and fall prevention.

There is also research showing qigong benefiting maternal health and patients with musculoskeletal pain/fibromyalgia, hypertension, cancer, COPD, and chronic heart failure
